Where Is My Sunshine

The weather's been a bit off this week or is it just me who's noticed? When I came back from Birmingham it was all sunshine and hot and high temperatures and there I was all ready to get those summer dresses out but then BOOM, what do you know, the sun goes away and the rain sets up a permanent residence in the Home Counties. I mean really rain? Could your timing get any worse? Just go away you're so annoying. If I wanted to be stuck in jeans and oversized hoodies I could just go back to Birmingham and do that. You've let me down Hertfordshire...

So instead of frolicking through the fields being all like, oh yeah, check out how tanned and carefree I am people, I'm sitting here like this instead contemplating why this always happens to me.

On the upside, at least it hasn't been boiling hot while I've been working. High temperatures and a hot kitchen/workplace never make for an attractive mix

Tumblr Takeover

For any blogger living under a rock today Yahoo announced it was taking over Tumblr in a $1 billion deal. Aside from the shock that Yahoo even has that much money to burn, the reaction from Tumblrites including myself has pretty much been one of outrage ever since I logged on this morning. And forgetting for the moment that Yahoo even slated us in their own article as being whiny brats, what I hate most about it is I found Tumblr to be a safe space I can flee to, away from Facebook and Twitter etc. In a way this relates to my previous post on my issues on opening up and trusting others, as I use Tumblr to hide away from people I know so they can't see how I really feel, and in a way Tumblr has become my little protective bubble from the outside world as I can vent and express myself so freely on there. There are no censors on Tumblr, in a way it is the only place online where we can say whatever we want and nobody can judge us or tell us we're wrong. But with all the media exposure this takeover is bringing as well as Yahoos ghastly plan to make it more family friendly, it's going to become harder to express myself as more and more people will join who don't get what Tumblr is all about, and that scares me a lot. The people who read my Tumblr are like me, we all go through the same stuff and we support each other, and the last thing any of us want is to have others who don't see it that way to come along and make us feel self conscious. If this is the case and everything I'm worrying about happens, then that means this blog will become my last safe space, and if that happens I will still never be able to be as open here as I ever was on Tumblr, as I know a lot of people read my blog, including a lot of the people I have on Facebook etc...

Assignment Woes

At long last the end is in sight. My final assignment is due mid May and after that I just have my exams and then I'm free at long last. I would jump for joy but you'll forgive me if I hold off on the festivities for a while. You see, this last assignment isn't like my previous ones which were standard essays. Oh no, it seems lecturers wanted to have the last laugh and set a lab report for the final one, and oh my what a pain it is. No matter how much I read through other reports for inspiration, how much coffee I drink or how long I sit staring at the laptop, nothing appears to be materialising on my screen. It's ironic the one time I really try I appear to have writers block, how maddening. To make it worse, everytime I look on Facebook I see loads of friends posting about how their year is finished, and all I want to do is throw something at them and shout "good for you". Clearly this is my laptops way of telling me to get off the internet and go do some work. Well played laptop, well played

In The Name Of Fashion

Today was student lock-in in Birmingham's Bullring today, which for those of you who don't know is a student event where basically stores take pity/advantage/money off of us poor penniless students and make us even poorer by offering mega discounts to entice us all in. Sadly for some of us such as myself it works everytime and I spent the best part of my afternoon down there shopping up a storm in New Look, Topshop and Boux Avenue and taking advantage of the 20% off. I have to say though I have no regrets whatsoever, my patience was rewarded when I got my hands on that maxi number I've been eyeing up and posted on here the other day, as well as some tops and lingerie of course. Topshop do an amazing offer where you can buy 3 items for £10 yet somehow the woman on till managed to mess it up and sell it to me for £7. Hey who am I to turn down a cheaper offer, I certainly wasn't going to correct her :3 ! Boux Avenue was a joke though, usually I'm a huge fan but the queue for the changing rooms was ridiculous. I wasted the best part of an hour waiting in that queue only to find out I could have just bought the stuff without bothering to try it on beforehand, to say I was annoyed is a massive understatement, although getting free stuff did cheer me up immensely. My card is officially on ice now until further notice

Can The Weather Just Not

In Birmingham it's been snowing since Thursday night, and I'd hoped once I'd hopped on(dragged my case onto) a train from New Street to Euston than I'd left the wintery weather behind me for something a little more seasonal, but no, it looks like what with my bad luck and all I've brought the bad weather with me all the way to Hertfordshire. To all my friends home I'm so sorry, but in my defence, I think the weather is suffering from amnesia, it's forgotten that Christmas was 3 months ago now and is doing that thing people do when they lose their memory. So dear weather, please change and start the whole sunshine and being warm thing please, I only packed 2 jumpers to bring home being an optimist and all, so yeah, show some consideration.

Welcome to the World of Work

As I mentioned in my last post I went and found me a part time job for when I come back from uni for the holidays. I've only done 1 shift so far but after 9 hours I left that place literally dragging myself out the door and onto my bus before tumbling through my front door. Why couldn't somebody tell me work was never going to be fun, or better still, why did nobody talk me out of getting a job in the first place. If only I weren't a poor student, then I could afford to stay home and catch up on Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods 24/7. It's a hard life. At least I'm not back in till Friday, I can go into hibernation mode till then...

Season 3 finale PLL (SPOILERS)

After staying up till 5am just to watch the season finale I am massively unimpressed with how this season ended. Firstly not a great deal even happened throughout the whole episode except Toby is alive (there's a shock) and Spencer only joined the A team to find out who Redcoat is (again, shocker), but now everything's ok and Spoby are back together (the shocks just keep on coming). I was majorly disappointed not to find out who A really is and that Mona isn't really even a bad guy, but even more so that the episode ended on a rather underwhelming note. Not the finest moment there for Pretty Little Liars. But nevertheless i shall shut myself away and hibernate now through till June when Season 4 starts, seeing as life has little meaning for me till then.

Give Me That Cake

For the past few weeks I've been on this diet so when I can go home for once my mum cannot turn round and tell me I'm too fat. Everything's been going fine, so far I've lost quite a bit and I've reached the point where I no longer feel the urge to throw myself in a vat of chocolate, but then this afternoon my best friend sends me a picture of this gorgeous strawberry cake he was eating, and I know he did it to cheer me up as I was ill, but I swear if he was not all the way in Nigeria at the moment I would have hunted him down and murdered him for tempting me, because now not only can I stop looking at this photo but all I can think about is how much I want to eat this cake. Oh cruel world, how can you do this to me, I officially hate technology.

Grade Rage

Today I finally got the results for a group presentation I did a couple of weeks ago for our cognitive/biological module. Good news is, we passed with 66%, which is good right? Bad news? We missed out on a 1st by 4%. 4 measly %. Why on earth could our lecturers not find it within themselves to award us that 4. I wanted a 1st so badly for this and now all my hopes and dreams have been crushed. I should be happy with what I got but I'm seriously gutted
